WOW! This is an example of a lie from satan that many have bought into hook, line, and sinker. (Myself included) We think that children's ministry isn't important.
  Well, it isn't.
To our egos, that is. Our self-inflating ego wants us,-even goes so far as to convince us, that we need to be doing something for which we will receive recognition from our peers. A big part of this deception is the belief that recognition is directly proportional with age- closer to our own age (ego,self-esteem,vain pride,) we can get the better we feel. This could not be farther from the truth.
Do something great or noteworthy in the eyes of your peers and they will remember you until the sun goes down. Do something great in the eyes of a child and you will leave an indelible impression that will shape them for a lifetime. WHAT POWER!
There are people who would sell thier eternal soul for a chance to be a big-wig for a few years-even in Rangers.(How many people do you know who are on some staff somewhere-or who won't serve somewhere unless they are on staff-just because they think they should be). Positions and titles- gotta have 'em! Power. (Yeah, right!) Prestige. (Keep dreamin')
You want to know what real power is? The opportunity to shape the very thought process and belief system of a person for a lifetime. To influence every decision that person will make for seventy years or more. And thereby influence every person they may encounter during this seventy or more years.
The average human being makes 80% of thier basic belief system decisions before the age of six. Six years determine how this person will believe, act, what they will hold valuable-for a lifetime. Who could ask for more power than that?
The catholic church made a claim some years ago: "Give us a child until he is six and he will be a catholic forever."  Maybe it's time we made some claims of our own.

Subject: [RR] Does shoe size matter?

Some food for thought...

Do our churches tend to budget (money, people, resources, etc.) by shoe
size?  Is there a tendency to spend more money on those with bigger shoes
(adults) than those with little shoes (children)?  Does smaller mean less
important?

Now bring it closer to home --- Do you spend more time, energy, and money on
your Trailblazers than you do on Straight Arrows?  Do we tend to put
commanders with less experience with the younger groups?

A strong, growing church needs a solid children's department.  The longer we
take to reach a child for Christ, the more time the enemy has to infect
them.

Proverbs 22:6 tells us "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when
he is old, he will not depart from it."
