There was a saying that I believe I saw in Ranger materials that said this;

"There are no problem boys; Only boys with problems."
 
When we can accept this it gives us the right attitude when we have the 
problems you discussed.  True, we are not trained to handle serious problems, 
nor should we be expected to.  After doing all we can a talk with parents 
with pastor present would be in order.  Maybe a parent can attend a few 
meetings just to help with their child.  Whatever you decide just remember 
that God may have placed you in this boy's life to make a difference in him 
for life.

Remember what Commander Johnnie said; " A man never stands quite so tall as 
when stoops down to help a boy"
