Hi All,
Iron Mike Here. I hope everyone is having a happy Easter today, and since
this message is so like behind the times by the time it gets down under to
Australia, I hope that Y'all have had a good one.
Anyway, I am having trouble with a compass. Fortunately the gyro-sensor in
my head isn't as thrown off as easily. I had trouble with this one at NTC
and it has come back to nip me in the heels. I feel so much like being
inferior because I am unable to get a silly compass bearing right, so instead
of shooting this here bearing, just take me out back and shoot me with
something other than a gun, maybe a water hose or something that doesn't
cause one to be well, on the way to the memorial garden. LOL. Seriously, I
can't get this compass bearing thing right and I need it to pass a class I am
taking. It could be a matter of life or death. OK, I learned that carrying a
pop tart in my pocket throws off the reading, my dog tags throw off the
reading and I end up walking into a tree in the dark like I did in NTC. I
also learned that lensatics work better than Silvas in the field when you
need to shoot a bearing and not read a map. Remember now, I am taking an
advanced course here, though it isn't a Ranger course. I am worried now that
the fillings in my teeth are going to throw off the next reading or that
there will be a sunspot or something. I am having trouble grasping the whole
compass thing and need help.
I post this here as I believe that your help will also be of help to a boy
who needs to know this stuff too just like I do. Suggestions?? Anyone??
Anyone??
Iron Mike
