Ahhh my friend,

One flaw to your theory. You state the program starts March 2002. Not so sir :-)
Materials will be available with initial training for Sectional Commanders at the March 2002 National Council. The program does not officially start until Sept. 2002.

So in the case of your Sr. Cmdr. he can apply for FCF next year under the old program.

As for the LMA course....there will be a 4-6 hr. refresher course for all LMA Leaders to bring them up to speed on the new program. So in the case of So. Mo. District a potential candidate will have until 2003 before having to use the new program.

If I remember correctly. For a leader to earn the merits will be required to teach the merit to the Rangers. This qualifies the leader then to earn the merit. So a leader desiring to enter FCF in 2003 will need the LMA basics course and have taught the 8 required merits.

I do not recall how they will handle a leader who has already earned the LMA. But, if you have boys who want to enter FCF you will have to teach the required merits anyway. So, this may be a mute point.

Hope this clears up any misconceptions on the new Trail of the Grizzly.

Blessings,

Subject: [RR] Trail of the Grizzly

All,
I like the idea of Trail of the Grizzly ,however, there is one error in it. I think National should give the chapters at least a year before they adopt it.
Let me give an example of what I mean. In the Daniel Boone chapter Trail of the Grizzly will go into effect March 2002.
My Sr. Commander took and completed the LTC this year. He does not want to go out for FCF this year but would like to in the future.
If he was to join FCF this next year this is what I see:
1. He will have to take half of the LMA course on top of the LTC which he all ready took.
and
2. Not only will he have to take the LMA but he will also have to earn the merits for Frontiersmen.
IF National would have the chapters wait a year before adopting Trail of the Grizzly this would not be a problem.
Just my thinking.
