RAIN!!!!
We had RAIN!

Our Pow-Wow was set up at Mt. Lassen A/G Conference grounds in beautiful
Northern California, right at the foot of Mt. Lassen National Park. Elevation
of 4800'.

The camp staff labored long and hard on Saturday and Sunday in 95 degree sunny
weather setting up the camp. One outpost came in, lashed together a 34' tall
tower, built a rope bridge up to it, connected it with a cargo net for
climbing,
added a rappelling wall and a zip line with basket for descending.

Monday was a setup day and all the outposts came in, set up camp and began
building entry ways, and lashing together as many projects as they could. As
outposts finished their setup, many boys wandered down to admire the tower and
all of its attractions. The really fun events were scheduled for Wednesday, so
the boys just got to look on with anticipation. It started to mist a little
heavily Monday evening while were in our Council/Devotional. Our speaker was
Rev. Larry Davis, a great speaker who really touched the boys. My outpost had
several boys go forward during the altar service. Outpouring of the Spirit
was marvelous!

Tuesday was our day for Patrol activities. All the outposts were set up with
4,5 or 6 man teams, some all Pioneer, some all Trailblazers, some Combined.
We actually had 15 all-Pioneer, 31 Combined and 5 all-Trailblazer patrols.
All the patrols ran thru 7 different events, most of them relays. One event
required knowledge of shear lash and square lash. One required diagonal lash.
One required a timberline hitch and a taut line hitch. The others required
that
the patrol work closely as a team to succeed (like staying in the wheelbarrow
while another patrol member wheeled thru a short obstacle course). Pageantry
(Black powder goes BOOM! pretty good!), worship music, message and altar
service
were awesome! Rained off and on all day long, but didn't bother most of us.
Rained all night long. Hard.

Wednesday was our day for all kinds of individual fun events. We had 30 events
scheduled, including paint ball guns, slingshots, archery, the tower with all
of its parts, dunk tank, water balloon wars, super soaker wars, casting for
accuracy, baseball pitching, basketball free throws, paper airplanes, and 5
or 6 fun a crafty events in the FCF village. Unfortunately, many of us woke
up to lakes in our tents. Wet sleeping bags. Wet clothes. Cold kids. A
little bit of hot chocolate, and they were Ready! to go. But it was still
raining. Forecast of another inch and a half of rain. Reminiscent of the
rainy NTC at Capital Mountain. No one on staff could remember a Pow-Wow where
it had rained this much. And we have some guys with nearly 30 years of
Rangers.
(Been in since Day One.) With a great deal of sadness, we cancelled the Fun
Day events. Many simply would not have been fun (or safe) in the weather. We
moved our schedule forward, had our evening meal at lunch, had our evening
council
fire/devotion in the afternoon and allowed those to go home who wanted
to. Some
of us moved into cabins on the conference grounds and hung out for half a day.
We never did get to climb up on that marvelous tower...

Thursday dawned bright, sunny, warm, dry with just a few wispy clouds
floating by.
With no official Pow-Wow things going on, we drove up to Lassen Peak in Lassen
National Park. Saw sulfur pots, fumaroles, snow on the mountain, a live
red fox
running around in the parking lot. Ate lunch in a mountain meadow at 8500'.

Got home from camp at 5:30 PM. Tents are up in the backyard drying out.

It was still a good camp, and there were many salvations and re-dedications
during our council fires. If you would like to have a dynamic speaker who
really touches boys, consider Rev. Larry Davis. You can contact him by leaving
a message at the Nor Cal Nevada District web site:
