July 4th, 1776.
Ah what a day.  I can remember it as though it were yesterday. It was a hot day that year. I can remember wearing my workshirt and military overalls. My wool waistcoat and regemential hung in a nearby tent.
At 1:00 pm Church bells began to ring. People fired there guns. Being camped outside of town we though the redcoats were in town.
We formed up and began to march into town. As we drew closer we found no redcoats. This was a celebration.
The UNITED STATES had declared independence from Britian. We had new hope and new reason to fight.
This wasn't a war just to kill. This was a war for our freedom.
A freedom once earned that could not be taken away.
Freedom!! just the thought of the word sent tears to my eyes.
In my haverest sack I had a Bible. I took it out a began to read. I came acrossed a verse that struck me. The verse reads: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
During the war I often would read that verse several times a day. You know we can fight for freedom. Untell we have true freedom though what good is it?
I knew many brave men that faught and died. Some had ture freedom others did not. Friend I want to ask you something.
Do you have true freedom? If you do that's great. If you don't,
let's ask Jesus to come into your life right now.
