I’ve received some great back channel notes.  I though I’d post one of my responses in regard to the *Reason* that CORR existed in the first place, so that all will not misinterpret my view on the subject with a few modifications…

-----

The original intended purpose of the program sounds like a good plan; however, the truth of the matter is, if we want to keep boys coming back as commanders, we must pray for God to lead them back.  Being a Ranger Commander is a calling, not a carrot.

Plant the seeds while you have the boys in your outposts, send the to JLTC and PLTC, let them see your burden, and your vision… give them something to remember, something for them to want to be a part of for the rest of their lives… then let God do the rest.

If they’re old enough, send them to NTC before they launch off into college.. or while they’re on break… get it paid for if you have to (remembering that college kids are always broke).  If an older boy has gone as far as he can in the program, talk to him about starting LTC courses… he cannot wear the pins till he’s 18, but he can sure be well trained and ready to lead…

Men's Ministries is designed to minister to men.  Those of College age are, by legal definition, men, but in reality, they are likely confused, 'sponge' like material that need the influence of Godly men even more so than they will later in life.

Introducing yet another avenue aside from their studies, and aside from their weekly involvement in church and Ranger activities seems to be promoting confusion.  I know at 18 when I started college, I was interested in finding out WHY I believed what I believed about the doctrines I'd been taught as a boy… introducing Knighthood as a part of the Ranger ministry that I loved at that point in my life would have certainly have been cause for concern to me then, as it is now…  (not that everyone is like me by no means)…

Granted, CORR and Chi Omega Rho could have been considered good tools for their time... but tools that have been 'phased out' due to the changing of the times, as was the catapult...  effective then, but only a historical artifact now.  We're hearing the same arguments about Royal Rangers in general these days.  I've seen many outposts closed down for such reasons.

This is why the program is being redesigned... phasing out old, ineffective methods, and phasing in new, more 'today' methods.... all with the same goal... Reach, Teach and Keep.... which includes those that happen to grow up in to bigger boys as you and I did (except for the ladies of course).  :-)

Blessings,

Parson.
