I don't post alot to this list, or any other , for that matter. Mostly,
I just lurk and wait for someone to disagree with my fundamental beliefs,
then pounce, as many of you can attest.
But I have gotten to know a few people on this list, and have learned
some things about the characteristics of some, from reading what they post.
I have often enjoyed the testimonies of those who have received some
particular blessing, and wanted to share it with thier friends on Rangernet.
Today I would like to take a rare step out of the lurking shadows to do the
same.
Earlier this week I received an e-mail informing me of a District Staff
meeting. I knew of some upcoming staff changes, so I figured the meeting
would be to announce these changes, and to discuss a renewed vision for the
ministry, etc. So I made plans to attend. Told my wife of my obligations,
changed previously planned activities, etc. Meanwhile my Territorial FCF
Rep. called to ask if he could ride to this meeting with me, as he had been
asked to attend also, even though he is no longer on district staff, but
regional. OK, no problem. I noticed a few other names on the e-mail, and
figured that there must have been more staff changes than I had been made
aware of, because some of these names did not belong on the list. Oh, well,
I'll find out when I get there.
When we drove up to the commander's lodge, I noticed more vehicles
belonging to folks who were not on staff. I knew that there was a house
cleaning going on in our district staff, but I did not know it was this
widespread. There were vehicles I did not recognize. I wondered aloud if our
district FCF president had finally gotten a new truck.
When I got to the lodge, the door was locked. When I knocked, some one
opened. "SURPRISE!" Yelled everyone. They had thrown me a birthday
party. Thirty-fifth. I never suspected. Several staff members, thier wives,
(mine included) and others had gotten together and plotted this scheme.
Got some new plunder. A new dutch oven. A writing set, including quill
pens, inkwell, and wax for sealing letters. A new custom made plunder box,
white oak, round-top, cedar lined. New calico shirt. Possibles bag, etc.
Mostly, though, a great blessing.
