Subject: Re: [RR] Re: Uniforms US and German

Actually, there is a reason for Germans not being so picky with their
uniforms than their US Counterparts.

Hold it my dear friend,

anybody in uniform here wears it with a lot of pickiness.
Be it firebrigade, Schuetzenverein, Bundeswehr, Red Cross, you name it.
You will never see anybody wearing his uniform in a sloppy way.

The reasoning is the culture of the
people of the countries in question.

Simply put, sticky adherance to uniform standards that result in a
military-esque uniform is an unspoken *verboten* in German culture.

Where did you get that from ?

After the disastrous results of nearly a century of militarism and
fascism, anything resembling the military or militaristic tendancies is
shunned by the people as being fascist.

We had only a time of 12 years of fascist rule by Uncle Adolf.
Before that we had the Weimarer Republik which was strongly woven through
with Kaiserreich thinking.

Besides, it was only the people that lost their youth during the 2nd war
that would refer to our Ranger uniform as : "We wore that in the
Hitlerjugend".

Every morning at camp we meet around the pole and will see to it that every
Ranger that wears an unproper uniform will correct that on the spot.
And during the entire day we keep an eye on proper dress.
We might do this in a different way than the US because we see also the
heart that beats behind that shirt.
And shirt, that is all we have as uniform.
No dress pants, no class A or B socks and the whole slue.

We call the Scout uniform "Kluft" because this is an expression coming from
the traditional scout movement here.
Just the same as we mainly camp in black Kothen and Jurten.

Contrast this with the American
tradition of lauding our military heroes and embracing the military
ethos-namely the ideas of duty, honour, sacrifice, and discipline (until
recently, that is ;)) and because of that the idea of a well-kept
uniform brings these ideas in a tangible way. With that said, the
reasoning for varying views of a uniform are cultural.

You are not correct with that view in regards to Germany.
Just because we lost a war or two does not mean that we disdain uniforms.
Only if you talk with the 68-generation you will find agreement.
Like our Chancellor or his buddies that refused at their swearing-in
ceremony to use the words:" May God help me".

Do not get me wrong in any way but I had to reply to that.
We appreciate the Ranger idea that you sent our way.
We just improved it a bit.
