Report! Busiek State Park, Low Teens, 1" snow on the ground and a Royal Ranger
Campout is under way!

As with any normal RR campout...those who said they were coming dwindled to
those who are die hard campers who just can't get enough of the great outdoors!
The plan was to leave at 6:30 pm will just before then a call was received that
one frosty RR Commander would be running late. So the boys in their
multilayered clothes sighed deep while commander Jones installed a new program
and worked in nice heat! Then rolled around the time of departure and we
headed to Busiek State Wilderness Park. But to our great surprise not a single
vehicle could be sought at our site. Nope not one neighbor to enjoy the
delight of 15 degrees in the middle of the night.

As we sat up the tent and dragged up some wood, a fire was kindled before the
tent stood. Along for the ride was 2 Leaders 3 boys. The fire ring was pulled
to allow such a fire that the BTU's would be increase to keep us on fire! As
the fire got bigger and the food was brought out the smell of hot dogs and
steaks could be found. Then the chicken noodle soup was brought out and the
boys and there cooking pots got busy to heat it all up.

The clock ticked by and low and behold the temperature drop to a few degrees
below REAL COLD. At the 10:30 hour my son declared it time to heat that
-20degree bag. They ran to the tent and jumped in their bags to only cry
out...dear dad what about the tent heater... o I was sad! So I let them cool
while I stayed by the fire and then realized it was time for me to retire.

I fired up the Mr. Buddy to my surprise and it was warm and comphy for a great
long while. Then in the middle of the night I heard commander Rob ask Ranger
Josh are you freezing inside. I over heard with a sigh nope it nice in here as
they were in their sleeping bags covered by a tarp laying outside on top of the
ground 10 feet from the fire. As the night rolled by I heard penny (the dog)
get a sharp reply. As she carried off gloves and food found near by.

It was a cold one but in the morning light. Up came 5 Rangers Ready to sit by
the fire! The bacon and eggs and rolls were on fire and the burnt side became
the goal of each to admire. We made it back home by 11:00 am and found out
again that it was time to go camping again!

Sorry guys and gals. It was so cold I didn't even want to run to the truck to
get my camera! Really we had a great time!
