I met CDR Johnny in person just a few years before he transferred to the
Master Ranger's Throne-room. I had corresponded with him before that, and
still have the letter of response he sent back regarding my "Chaplain's
Manual" that I sent to him.

I had written it due to a prompting by Kent Teeters (former NorCal/Nev
District Commander). I'd asked him at an annual meeting in the early 80's
why there was no Chaplain's manual... to which he replied "because you
haven't written it yet" ... so I wrote it, and sent it on to Nat'l. Since
the inception of the new leaders manual (you know, the 1 inch new manual
from the late 80's, versus the old 3/8 incher from the 60's), I found pages
that included some of my writing, just as Commander Johnny told me would
happen...

Too bad I can't find that original copy now... uuggh.

At least I got to write some more for Nat'l during the new program build
up... so even though I'm not on the 'active' list right now, the merits and
writings I submitted are still an active part... (and yes... my PC has
crashed only about 50 times since 1999 when I started those writings, so
those originals are also in the bit bucket)... uuggh again...

Not intending to toot my own horn, but in explanation... the work that YOU
do in Rangers is farther reaching that one particular Wednesday night!

Those boys that come to Jesus through Rangers will become evangelists,
pastors and teachers... maybe even Commanders too!

Be not weary in well doing, because in due time, you will reap the reward
(either here, there or in the air).

Blessings,

Parson.

Tell them I am!

If you guys would get off your ole stiff back side and start up a good ole
fashioned converstation we could get some emails flowing.

My excuse is ... I am sitting here working on this phone box and accross the

street is Johnny Barnes Grave Marker and every time I come over here to get
some work done... I think of Royal Rangers...

Yesterday, I did talk to the lady that was Johnny's Secretary for 15 years
and Ken Hunts Secretary for 10 years. I was supposed to be doing phone work

there too....

I never met Johnny Barnes but I have enough respect for the man to get goose

bumps when I look over there and think of the Grand Ministry of Royal
Rangers he started.

The lady I talked with told me she said a lot of people will take credit for

things but most of that program came right out of Johnny Barnes heart. She
told me he was one of those rare individuals that had common sense and was
more interested in the person than the corporation. That is indeed a rare
trait to see.

So there you have it. Post on!

Mark Jones
p.s besides all that extra stuff we need to take time to share with our RR
buds and buddeettes.
