"Do you really think that the government actually has the power to make
you rich or poor?" It depends on who is running the government. The
Bolsheviks... i mean the democrats seem that they would rather have people
be poor because they have many socialistic ways such as: they support higher
taxes for the rich and they pretty much "steal" the money from the rich and
give to who are supposedly "poor" through welfare. Higher taxes for the rich
hurt the economy because it causes stock market investors to not want to
invest as much because of high capital gain tax (which will go up when
President bush leaves office unless it is renewed). High taxes also hurt the
economy because the investors have less money to put towards investing and
other things.
When the republicans are in charge it helps the economy because they are in
favor of lower taxes so it does the opposite of raising taxes. This isn't
always the case because during President Clinton's term there was a stock
market boom and he raised taxes.
Many of the programs that were created during the great the depression:such
as welfare were good for that time but they need to be reformed because
these types of programs bring down a country IE: France because they
encourage people to be lazy. I'd rather be the guy that is paying the high
taxes than the guy receiving the money from the high taxes. I'd like to
finish with a poster i saw. The poster showed a picture of Paris with the
Eiffel tower of course and the quote under said "Hard work never killed
anybody but it is illegal in most places".

Do you really think that the government actually has the power to make
you rich or poor? Who is it that the Bible says gives the power to get
wealth in Deut. 8:18 and Eccl. 5:19? The president? Congress?
Praying for those in authority does more good than complaining--
regardless of your opinion of how well they are performing their duties.
