American-Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) di Jakarta mengundang para sarjana Indonesia untuk mengikuti kompetisi terbuka Fulbright Scholarship Program tahun akademi 2003/2004 untuk pendidikan tingkat magister (S2) di universitas terkemuka di Amerika Serikat. Pendaftaran calon ditutup 28 Februari 2002.

Bidang ilmu yang ditawarkan:

  1. Social Studies and Humanities: American Studies; Anthropology; Art History; Creative Writing; Economics; International Trade; Linguistics; Literature; Philosophy; Political Sciences; Psychology; Comparative Religion; Sociology.
  2. Professional and Educational Studies: Education (termasuk bidang ilmu-ilmu dasar); Environmental Management; Journalism; Law; Mass Communication; Public Administration; Social Work; Teaching English as a Second Language; Urban and regional Planning.
  3. The Arts: Dance: Fine and Applied Arts; Music; Theater Arts.
Catatan: Pelamar diharapkan mempunyai academic background yang sesuai, dan/atau membuktikan pengalaman dan persiapannya di bidang lain akan relevan dengan bidang studi yang diinginkan. Pelamar juga hendaknya punya kemampuan dan kemauan untuk menerapkan ketrampilan untuk pengembangan masyarakat madani.
Persyaratan:
  • Sudah lulus sarjana S1, dengan Grade Point Average (GPA) atau Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) minimal 3,00 (skala 1- 4).
  • Good command of English language, dengan nilai TOEFL tests (International, Institutional or Prediction) minimal 575.
  • Berusia di bawah 35 tahun sebelum pendaftaran ditutup, 28 Februari 2002.
  • Sudah bekerja tetap, dan berpengalaman kerja minimal 24 bulan sejak lulus S1 dari perguruan tinggi. (Prioritas diberikan kepada staf pengajar perguruan tinggi negeri dan swasta, lembaga nirlaba (LSM/NGO) atau pemerintah).
  • Berpotensi kepemimpinan (possessing leadership potentials).
  • Perduli terhadap perkembangan masyarakat madani (civil society) di Indonesia serta menghargai budaya antar bangsa.

Peluang bagi para wartawan Indonesia

ENAM wartawan dari Asia-Pacific, termasuk Indonesia, dan enam wartawan media Amerika Serikat akan dipilih untuk mengikuti Program Jefferson Fellowship, 28 April-25 Mei 2002 di Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jefferson Fellowship is an East-West Center (EWC) program of professional and cultural interchange for mid-career journalists (with at least ten years' working and professional experience) from Asia and the Pacific, and the United States to acquire greater knowledge of the region through:

  • Professional exchanges among journalists and with scholars and experts at the East-West Center in Honolulu;
  • Lecture/discussions on topical issues led by East-West Center scholars and experts;
  • 16-day study tour to Washington,D.C., New York, and Los Angeles (for Asian Fellows), or to Beijing, Tokyo and Jakarta (for American Fellows) for interviews with political, economic, security, social and cultural leaders;
The East-West Center coordinates the travel segment of the program, working with its network of alumni and former Jefferson Fellows who volunteer to host,guide,and advise traveling Fellows and arrange appointments and interviews.
Funding
  • The East-West Center provides Fellows with housing and a per diem for living expenses during the program in Honolulu, and transportation, accommodations and a per diem for meals.
  • The Fellows, who are selected for the Fellowships, are expected to get financial support from their media employers or other philanthropic organizations, government funding agencies and other sources for return air ticket to and from Hawaii.
Who may apply
  • Mid-career journalists (already working for at least 10 years).
  • Preference is given to "news gatekeepers" who, in their daily work, help determine the media coverage content, and to editorial writers, commentators and columnists, and to reporters and editors responsible for coverage of Asia-Pacific issues.

What to prepare and submit:

Send to the East-West Center:

  • An application letter, outlining key issues of interests that you wish to understand, and what you expect to accomplish if you are granted the Fellowship.
  • Names of three persons (including your employer) for recommendations that the East-West Center may contact for references. Two of them should be persons outside your own media corporation.
  • Your employer's letter of recommendation, describing your suitability for the Fellowship and the benefit that your media hopes to get from your participation in the program.
