Gadgets don't render when JavaScript console is not available

I noticed in FF3.6 & IE8 (both Windows XP) that gadgets don't render until I
open Firebug (FF) or the debugger (IE). Probably a console.log is called but no
console object is present. I haven't had this problem in Chrome or FF5 on MacOS.
Either remove or comment the console.log statements or use them in a safe way,
