I general it is a very good idea! I would comment however that you do
not need integration into Rave, but need to make OpenMeetings work with
OpenSocial. That will get you rave integration capabilities, but also
integration capabilities into all other OpenSocial compatible portals
out there (e.g. iGoogle, Liferay, etc).

We did some work on combining BigBlueButton some time ago and created a
gadget for that to allow starting a conference with the people in your
(OpenSocial)group from the portal gui. The code is here for inspiration

As you suggest also, we mainly made use of the available APIs to
interact between OpenSocial and BBB, that should probably work well for
OpenMeetings as well.
