Hi,

We are nearing the end of 2006. Rawstudio has been in active development
for more than 10 months now! :)

10 months ago we had a meeting where we outlined needed features for an
open source raw-converter. The first proof of concept didn't take long
to hack together, but it was pretty unusable. Four months later release
0.1 was ready for public scrutiny. Some code was borrowed from Udi
Fuchs's UFRaw and David Coffin's dcraw. We wish to thank these two
gentlemen for their excellent work.

In retrospect I think that we've done a lot in the passing year, we have
gone from nothing to something. Many features are still missing, bugs
are still present. But we have a really usable application.

Judging by our feedback, the user base is growing steadily - and seems
to pick up as the various Linux distributions package Rawstudio for easy
installation.

Martin Egger popped up from nowhere and started writing the Rawstudio
documentation, Richard Querin started helping almost immediately. Let's
hope these two fine writers will continue their excellent work in 2007.
Another big contribution was from Edouard Gomez who ported Rawstudio to
x86_64.

There haven't been any releases in almost three months, but rest
assured, we're not falling behind. The next release will feature the
long awaited crop tool, better color management and even a nifty
straighten tool! We hope to have 0.5 released this year.

In 2007 we should concentrate on making Rawstudio even better. One of
the first things to look at is our missing demosaic, users really seem
to miss the resolution demosaic provides.

It would be nice if we could collaborate more with UFRaw-authors. UFRaw
and Rawstudio is moving in two different directions, but we have a lot
of common problems to solve.

Thanks to everybody who has contributed in any way. We wish you and your
family a happy holiday and a fantastic 2007.

Anders Brander & Anders Kvist
