I must admit that i can't really compare the two curves, the new luma
curve is to aggressive in the dark and too soft in the light ... like
the old curves were before gamma correction were done before curves...
I don't know much about curves and what is right or wrong, but i think
it do need to have gamma correction before curves...if it's done this
way, i believe the autotools will work with this patch...

Hi,
I'll try to answer both of you in one post.

As Edouard has provided a patch for this for some time, are there plans
to implement it? I have used the patched RS for some test the last week
and the results seem OK to me.
Yep i saw a bunch of commits already in SVN and still no plan to merge
(or refuse) this last patch.
I'm using it myself (!). I was especially looking for feedback about the
linearity of the curve-widget after your patch, the current curve is
"gamma-corrected". But nobody seems to mind - which is good ;)
W/o any comment from main authors, i just gave up improving the curve
tool any further. But if there is a clear decision and direction about
the curve tool, i'm still interested into some more work on it.
Don't give up, you're more than welcome.
The only drawback is that i won't be able to do anything during one
month, because i'll be in China w/o any PC around.
I think, this would be a very nice addition - esp. if it is trivial to
implement.
Indeed, once we have the RGB curves we control all rendering using
curves. Lot of photo effects can only be done through RGB curves:
- dominant color removal
- cross processing
- ...
Any plans?
Interested in the answer too :-)
I would like to merge the luminosity-patch asap and then move on to
discuss future enhancements - one problem at a time.
I feel that RGB curves would be a nice addition, but we need some
discussion about where to stop adding features - or if we should stop at
all.
Do we need RGB curves?
Do we need ab (Lab) curves?
Do we need post-curve histogram as background?
...
