Most of the work that I do on my images is through adjustments of the
'curve'. In order to tweak areas of the curve without shifting other
areas I often lock curve segments with a number of what I call 'control
points'. As a result my curve often has quite a large number of points
set along the line.
A recent finding is that several fairly close points being manipulated
can cause the image to totally go black. Removing the offending point
will allow the image to resurface.
I know now to be careful with point placement but you might want to look
at what is going on.
Working in B/W I often need to do really selective tone adjustment and
the curve is really the backbone of my work.
