Except, of course, that you can't reach in and restore files you've
sent into the bit bucket, whereas you can drag files out of the trash
can/recycle bin if you put them there accidentally.

/dev/null is more like a black hole than a trash can. Use it with some
caution - nothing comes out the other end.
