I don't remember where I saw the discussion on that fix - I think it was the amavisd-new site. Anyway, it has something to do with Perl, and Redhat breaking all kinds of Perl programs by sticking that UTF-8 in there. I've got 5 RedHat antispam boxes with this fix on them and haven't run into a single problem with it yet...
