We use the service of popfax.com (now j2 global) for customer applications. We send normal e-Mails using RMail to an E-Mail address with special subject, popfax deliver to the receiver. Very easy and low budget, good reports to reproduce.
Also able and often used to send faxes including attachments in the same easy way from every R:BASE workplace. I'm sure you will have similar provider in US.
