Mike, If you went to the grocery store intending to buy 3 items, and you knew ahead of time exactly where they were located, it would take you three or five minutes.
If you went to a grocery store in a foreign country, where there were no signs over aisles that you could read, and things were arranged differently than you were used to, and you had to walk up and down each aisle looking for your three items, it could take you over an hour. That's the difference between using an index and doing a sequential search.
