Mike,

Mine used to start pretty fast when new and with zero application installed
(other than bloatware) but over the years, and with so much software installed,
it slowed down a lot. As you know, most programs, from Google to Adobe do
checks at startup that sometimes are a PIA to get rid of; I do need to take a
half day and clean up the startup process.
BTW, what is the 500 MB drive speed? A 7,200 RPM is about 1.5 time faster than
the standard 5,400 rpm and the 10,000 rpms about 2.5 times faster. Also, hybrid
drives can store the startup information on the solid state portion and have
very fast start up times but slow down when accessing the standard portion of
the drive. As I indicated, the hard drive portion of the Windows Experience
Index now maxes out at 7.9, which as you know it is as high as it goes. In my
case, updating the standard drive to a SSD had probably gotten me a couple of
more years use of my current laptop…not a bad investment and highly recommended
to anyone wanting to extend the life of an existing computer.

Javiar,

  FYI,

My HP envy I-7 16GB 500GB harddrive Win10, starts from 0 to login screen in
under 17 seconds. It starts just as fast as my Surface 4 Pro with the same
specs.

Admin: feel free to delete if this is not appropriate.

My laptop (my only computer) just died, rats. It was a 2012 Toshiba Satellite
with windows 8. Boy I am scared to get windows 10. I always bought at Best
Buy, but they no longer carry Toshiba, and until now Toshibas have been so
reliable for me. They do carry Dell, Lenova, Acer.

So my question is, knowing that RBase is my primary concern, am I okay buying
windows 10? And comment on brands?
