I use Gateway Import quite a bit, although I am not a power user. To answer your question directly ( you sparked some curiosity regarding your question, hence some testing using RbaseXE), the answer appears to be no, at least I could not find a way. You probably already know that you can when importing an XLS file. So perhaps import the CSV into Excel and then save as an XLS and then import. I have to import a text fixed width file monthly and its far easier and to insure accurate data, to import into Excel then import into Rbase.
