On one of my databases, I think it was when we updated from 10 to 10.5, the
Ctrl-enter that they had used to do carriage returns in fields were turned into
physical characters exactly as you show.  I had to look up all the columns that
were affected and run this piece of code.  Fixed it up!  And the normal method
of ctrl-enter worked for new entries.  So question 1 for you would be:  does
this issue happen only on existing data?  If you enter new data does it print
okay?

First:  I typed "unload data for <table>", looked for the "set lineend" line.
I then did a copy / paste of the character into the following program (the
vText variable)

You don't really need a declare cursor for this, just one update would do, but
they wanted to manually view and confirm each record that was changed.

setvar vtext = 'þ'    <-- this is the lineend character
set var vcr = (CHAR(013)+ CHAR(010))
sel ordid, shoporder, custreq from orditems where custreq contains .vtext

DROP CURSOR c1
DECLARE c1 CURSOR FOR SELECT ordid, shoporder FROM orditems where custreq
contains.vtext
OPEN c1
WHILE 1 = 1 THEN
  FETCH c1 INTO vordid, vso
  IFSQLCODE = 100 THEN
    BREAK
  ENDIF

show var vso
UPDATE orditems SET custreq = (SRPL(custreq,.vtext, .vcr, 0)) WHERE ordid =
.vordid

edit shoporder, custreq from orditems whereordid = .vordid

ENDWHILE

This is representative of the text formatting entered into, and visible in a
field of file type NOTE or VARCHAR within the BLOB Editor:
SET SCREWS|1/4-20 x 3/8in|Qty 3 per set
In BROWSE MODE, or in a Report, the data appears formatted as:
SET SCREWSþ|1/4-20 x 3/8inþ|Qty 3 per set
...  where (þ = 0AFE).
What codes need I enter at the end of each text line such that a [line
feed|carriage return] formats the text correctly within a report printout?
Thanks much, Bruce
