I am looking at something similar but using windows server and synology device
using a iscsi connection. I currently have the drives inside the server using a
raid controller card with 4gb memory. It does speed up things.

I would definitely be interested in a NAS thread. I am looking a the Synology
DS 920+ with 4GB memory, 4 – 4TB drives and 1TB NVME M.3 drive for cache. As I
understand, the SSD cache makes a big difference when using databases. I have
not yet contacted Synology to get their recommendation on the optimal setup for
databases. At this time, seems like it might be a better option than a server.

Razzak: Thankful for all the work that went into the revised guide. A huge
enterprise, ably handled.

Javier: I'm given to understand that a NAS volume share, being accessed like
any other Windows shared volume, makes database sharing straightforward. I'm
about to experiment on that understanding with a tiny Synology box. I'll let
you know how it goes. [1]

Time for a NAS thread?

Best, Bruce

That is a real good guide on optimizing multi-user performance. I see that
there are coding practices I have been using that I need to review and modify.
General Question:
In reference to network use, what is the recommendation on the use of Network
Attached Storage - NAS devices for database/application storage?
NAS units have come a long way and now include RAID capabilities and the use of
fast large NVME M.2 drives for super fast cache; they can also work as Cloud
storage for extended versatility and host virtual machines.
Any recommendations or experience with NAS devices? I have an aging server that
I need to replace and I am looking at NAS as potential options

To R:BASE Community,

The R:BASE Multi-User Guide has undergone a complete overhaul with the detailed
recommendations and advised steps for configuring R:BASE applications on a
multi- user environment.

>From The Edge: https://www.razzak.com/fte
Topic........: R:BASE Multi-User Guide
Keywords.....: Multi-User, Multi, Optimize, Speed
Versions.....: R:BASE X.5, X.5 Enterprise (Version 10.5)
Build........: 10.5.3.20624 or higher https://www.rbaseupdates.com

In a multi-user environment R:BASE allows users to simultaneously access, view,
update, insert, and delete data. To most efficiently work on a network, R:BASE
uses various types of settings, locks and a waiting period to avoid situations
that cause R:BASE to work more at preventing user conflicts than at storing,
sorting, and retrieving data.

Chapters include the following topics:

. Multi-User Concurrency Settings
. Preparing for Network Use
. R:BASE Installation Options
. Security Software Exceptions
. Preparing the Application
. Customizing the End User's Computer
. Increasing Application Performance
. Increasing Performance in Forms
. Operating in Single-User Mode

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
