One more thing you could use. Under Layout ON BEFORE DESGN ACTION, that would be a good place to create your temporary table and add a couple of test records and, ON AFTER DESIGN ACTION, you can drop the temporary table. The blind spot is when designing a form for which the bound temp table is empty, [CTRL-F9], which is natively in EDIT mode, finds nothing to EDIT in the table, and BYPASSES [1] the ON BEFORE EEPs, delivering only the 2059 error. Understood. In later stages of testing, I can start the form with ENTER USING; but during the rough-and-ready design stage, there's no ENTER USING formname OPTION DESIGN to accomplish the task. Bottom line, if there's no analog to the imaginary PROPERTY <formName> ENTER_MODE 'TRUE', then I'm perfectly fine with using the [Shift-Ctrl-F9] approach. [1] Neither of the On Before EEPs, with TRACE active, appears. Much appreciated, Bruce Bruce A. One is clicking the blue right arrow or (Ctrl-F9) which saves the current version and opens the form in the edit test mode. The other is clicking the thunderbolt icon (Shift-Ctrl-F9) which will not save the changes made since the form was last saved but gives you the option of selecting the mode, Edit or Enter, and allows you to select WHERE and Sort Clauses and stores a history of them. I find it extremely handy when I need to test a form with a specific, long selection clause since I can just pick it up from the list. Again, you need to save your form if you want to test the changes made when using the second option. BACKGROUND: While designing a Form bound to a TEMP Table; - intended strictly for data entry one row at a time; - during testing within a design session; - where the Temp Table is empty; - where both On Before EEPs have TRACE set ON: (1) when hit, the [Ctrl-F9] "Run Form" (blue triangle icon): - skips both On Before EEPs; - returns error: "No rows exist or satisfy the specified clause. (2059)" ... as if "Run Form" operates strictly in EDIT mode. (2) when hit, the [Shift-Ctrl-F9] "Run Form Live" (lightning icon): - displays the Run Form <formname> dialog; - runs the On Before EEPs no matter which mode is chosen; - succeeds when ENTER is chosen; - fails with 2059 when EDIT or BROWSE are chosen (as expected).
