Tip of the Day: Enhanced PACK PASSWORD Command
Product.......: R:BASE X.5 and R:BASE X.5 Enterprise (Version 10.5)
Build.........: 10.5.4.20421 or higher
Sections......: Commands
Keywords......: PACK, PASSWORD, User Privileges, Maintenance
Did you know that the PACK PASSWORD command was enhanced to better
clear out bogus rows?
When using the PACK PASSWORD command, the underlying logic will now
perform a "PACK TABLE SYS_PASSWORDS" routine to internally remove
deleted rows.
The PACK operation will also set the system table row count to match
the actual row count after performing the PACK.
The PACK PASSWORD command is supported in multi-user sessions. The
database must be connected in order to use the PACK PASSWORD command.
Performance boosting improvements have also been made when connecting
to password protected databases, and when identifying permissions for
USER accounts!
For users interested in implementing password protection for their
databases, the "Managing User Privileges" technical document is available.
