Nice property. I wrote an application a while back to test/measure network speed. You select a local directory, a server location, a file size and number of transfers and the application creates a “dummy” file of the select size and copies it back and forth the selected number of times and reports the individual transfer times and overall average. Works great to diagnose slow connections from specific workstations. It would be nice to add the connection type and maybe the capability to switch back and forth between wired and wireless to compare relative times. I need to find the utility and do some upgrades.

NETWORKCONNECTIONTYPE and NETWORKCONNECTIONTYPEEX are new parameters for the GETPROPERTY command. NetworkConnectionType returns network connection type, with possible values being: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Unknown. NetworkConnectionTypeEx is an expanded implementation of the property which considers the network adapter's metrics and returns the network connection type and name of the adapter, with possible return values being: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. GETPROPERTY APPLICATION NetworkConnectionTypeEx vConType SHOW VAR vConType vConType = Ethernet, ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter The ability to detect the network connection type is an ideal feature, especially for reliable connections to the database.
