My name is Ron Peterson and I have used RBASE from the early 80's until my retirement in 2000. I have a client that I have continued supporting that is located in the area of Ann Arbor MI. They are in the process of upgrading from RBase 6.5++ both DOS and WINDOWS to the latest X.5 version. We have already purchased the new licenses for the X.5 version. They are also installing a new domain server this week.
The company is a plastics injection molding firm and the programs do everything from tracking raw materials thru the production/quality/finished goods and shipping process. The client wants simple forms/reports without any colors at this time. They also want to move all printing to laser printers. Much of the current production printing is done to Epson LQ dot matrix printers which are slow and require a lot of coding to achieve what is desired. A part of the application was moved to Windows RBase6.5++ in order to print bar-coded box labels during the production process. All the rest of the programs have remained in DOS. The conversion to 9.5 was started 10 years ago but never implemented. The client wants to complete the upgrade as soon as possible. Most of the forms/reports and application programs were converted to 9.5 but were never tested or implemented in 2013. At that time I was applying the massive changes of using SET CURSOR to DECLARE CURSOR, etc., and eliminating use of many reserved words that were used in the early years as column names. There is still some of this that needs updating. I will be supervising the upgrade process and when completed it is intended that the new programmer will continue to support the client going forward and I will step back. The owner of the company has a second plant in the Kalamazoo, MI area. He may be interested in implementing this program at that plant after it is completed to replace the software that is currently running on an AS400 system.
