Tip of the Day: Opening Tables in MDI Mode
Product.......: R:BASE 11
Build.........: 11.0.1.40516 or higher
Section.......: Data Browser
Keywords......: MDI Mode, Table, View, PROPERTY

Did you know the Data Browser may be opened in MDI mode by default, regardless of the MDI setting?

The Data Browser settings include a new "Enforce MDI Mode" option to specify that the Data Browser is opened in MDI mode by default, even if the MDI parameter is omitted from the EDIT/BROWSE commands or the MDI setting is OFF.

Within the R:BASE development environment, MDI opens the table/view in another tab next to "Explorer," "R> Prompt," "R:BASE Editor," etc. Within an application, MDI specifies using a mode-less Data Browser window, where other windows within R:BASE can be accessed without closing the current Data Browser window first.

If the "Enforce MDI Mode" setting is checked, the MDI check box in the Open Table/View dialog is also checked and can not be changed.

Enforcing MDI mode in the Data Browser may also be controlled with the PROPERTY command, which turns the feature ON/OFF in code.
