Tip of the Day: New PARSESEMI Setting
Product: R:BASE 11
Build: 11.0.2.20415 or higher
Section: Settings
Keywords: PARSESEMI, Ampersand, Variable, Semicolon

Did you know you can control semicolon characters' parsing in processing
ampersand variables?

One of the R:BASE 11 features is the ability to stack multiple commands
separated by semicolons inside an ampersand variable.

However, if you are using an ampersand variable to build a command that
utilizes a semicolon (GATEWAY with special separator character, PLUGIN with
file name filters, etc.), the syntax would fail.

The PARSESEMI setting has been introduced to control the parsing of semicolon
characters in processing ampersand variables. The default value is OFF, which
means R:BASE ignores semicolons in ampersand variables, where existing GATEWAY
and PLUGIN codes will function as expected.

If PARSESEMI is set to ON, you can use semicolons inside an ampersand variable
to stack multiple commands.

The "Dotted vs. Ampersand Variables" technical document from The Edge can help
you understand the difference in variable use.
