Thursday, August 21, 2025 Tip of the Day: New Quick Prompt Utility Product: R:BASE 11 Build: 11.0.2.20821 or higher Section: General Keywords: Quick Prompt, R> Prompt, Query, Command History Did you know that you can launch a subset of the R> Prompt, named the Quick Prompt, from any area within R:BASE to enter commands?
The Quick Prompt is of use specifically when development is taking place within a modal window (Add/Remove Variables, EEP Editor, etc.). There is a need to perform R> Prompt tasks (SELECT, SET VAR, etc.) without closing windows and losing declared data/values. Pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Q key combination will display the Quick Prompt utility. The Quick Prompt is tied to the R> Prompt's Command History, where the [Page Up] and [Page Down] keys cycle through previously used R> Prompt commands. The R> Prompt's Command History may be displayed with the [Ctrl+H] key combination, when focus is in the Q> input console. When a command is selected/highlighted in the History and the OK button is clicked, the string is inserted into the Quick Prompt input console, and the window is closed. A command may also be double-clicked to insert the string into the Quick Prompt input console. Use the arrow keys to move up and down the displayed R> Prompt's Command History, and use the [Page Up] and [Page Down] keys to jump up and down the list. The [Ctrl+Page Down] and [Ctrl+Page Up] key combinations place the Command History focus to either the bottom or top of the list. Any commands entered at the Quick Prompt are not added to the R> Prompt Command History.
