Tom:

Note that I do all my work on single-user workstations; so I cannot address writes-to-server-disk.

I'm still experimenting. I've used INMEMORY tables in two circumstances:

- GATEWAY IMPORT where there's RAM sufficient to confidently receive the imported volume. I'm trading off the single final write-to-disk against what would otherwise be incremental writes to the on-disk TEMP table. Seems faster, though haven't done recorded tests.

- WHILE loops which otherwise drive high volumes of disk writes. Seems like a definite improvement, but I need to do a test case.

Better? Depends. I'd want to make sure that when the grid goes brown or down, my UPS unit is manly enough to absorb the hit and preserve the moment.

I 'spose "stay frosty" is not the correct sign-off, Bruce

Subject [RBASE-L] - Temp vs inmemory

with snowmagedon in Oklahoma I have some time to work on my program, for the first time in years. Is it better /faster to use temp tables or inmemory tables
