Karen Sorry I missed chiming in until this point, but to save others the problems you went through, one can download a compatibility program from the Microsoft web site to test your computer for compatibility issues that will come up when you upgrade from Win98,Win200 to XP.
In a scenario where a machine is updgraded, MS gives you a printout of possible compatibility issues before the upgrade is performed. Unfortunately in your case, you bought a new computer and then found out the problems. Anyone who is thinking of upgrading to XP (and it should be XP Professional) should run this compatibility software on their old computer first. This will save a lot of time and should make the transition easier. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/compatibility/default.asp and click on Upgrade Advisor. There's no PS/2 port for my external mouse and keyboard (I have a y-cable) so I'll be in search for USB models or an adapter. I guess an XP computer is fine if it's your first, or it's an add on. But trying to replace a Win98 machine to make it your primary business machines is gonna take a long time! Karen
