Thanks Jim but...

Everyone is Win 2000 or Win XP. 
I'm assuming changing Autoexec.bat would either be a no-no or wouldn't work.

That would be great if something like:
SET VAR vworkstat = (ENVVAL('workstat'))
would do the trick.
