I have not had troubles with updates, and I apply all the critical updates when they 
are announced. I use IBM ThinkPads. (Got three of 'em) and keep them up to date. The 
operating systems range from W98SE to W2003 Server. I also have automatic live updates 
from Symantec. No troubles so far (bangs hand on head saying "Touch Wood")
