Well, in my case, I'm using a set of forms that contain mostly variables.  Then, the "controlling" command files do as I've designed them to do w/each field's data, including the NOTE-type variables.  Your question is valid, esp. about the 2-table w/no record in the "subordinate" sibling/NOTE table.  I don't know when I went the way I did or exactly why, but at that point it might have been in large part due to the issue(s) you raise.   Steve in Memphis ----- Original Message ----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: RBASE-L Mailing List Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 8:14 AM Subject: [RBASE-L] - RE: Note Fields I have a question about how you do forms when NOTE columns are in a different table (which is something I've never done yet and haven't experienced problems).  What if the row of data does not have a note yet?  Are you setting up a 2-table form?  If so, then you would get the "no editable data" for the note field; do you have a button to "add a note" or something like that?  How do you make it easy for a user to add a note when there wasn't one before?
