Dear R:Base Newsgroup,
I have been watching the R:Base For MS-DOS
versus R:Base For Windows discussion with some amazement.
We currently use R:Base for DOS because that
is what we have used for over twenty years. The old adage "IF IT AIN'T
BROKE THEN DON'T FIX IT" has been our philosophy concerning our mission
critical software applications.
However, as our business has grown so have
our business related needs also grown and in many ways have changed. Yes,
we have found that MS-DOS based applications have done the job quite nicely for
over twenty years. Yes, we have had very few problems running our DOS
applications as long as they were running on MS-DOS based
computers.
There is another old adage that says "ALL
GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END". This states the "COLD, HARD FACTS OF BUSINESS
LIFE". We have also found that Windows is able to meet our business needs
much better than MS-DOS. Due to our changing business needs as well as all
the technological changes in the business world, the Windows operating system
allows us to keep pace with all the other businesses, both vendors and
competitors.
Yes, we use R:Base for DOS but after the
first of the year we are implementing a very aggressive upgrade strategy to
implement R:Base v7.0 For Windows.
Another old adage says that in the business
world there are two kinds of businesses, "THE QUICK AND THE DEAD!". My
company is going to continue to adapt, to improvise, to grow, and to overcome
any and all obstacles that stand in the way of that growth. I have chosen
life for my company and R:Base v7.0 For Windows is one of the
many strategies that will allow the life of my company to
continue.
I hope that this little talk has helped some
of you.
If you have any questions, please feel free
to e-mail them to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED].
Sincerely,
Oleta Smith
