Only minimal processing of the Terminal Service's software for the screen and keystroke handling. All database functions run on the server.
Screen and keyboard performance on the client side can be slow if using a dial up, but very good on DSL or Broadband. I run Terminal Services Client on a Windows 98 machine, 184 Mb ram, 400mhz machine quite satisfactorily. You can download the Remote Desktop client from Microsoft. (It comes standard with XP) I have broad band cable and notice no screen or keyboard delays at all for the applications I use. There is almost no setup required. The more sessions of Terminal Services used, the more demands on your server, up to a point where network performance can be seriously affected. You will need to add more memory and a second processor at some point. Then eventually more servers. At a previous company, we ran all remote locations via Citrix (similar to Terminal Services) and had about 80 terminals running manufacturing/order entry software on 5 servers. It worked very well. However extensive graphics can be a problem. Have a good day. -Bob Thompson Technology Consultants 276 Chippewa LaPorte, IN 46350 219-324-2605 (Phone & Fax) 219-363-7441 (Cell) http://ttc.inc.home.comcast.net -----Original Message----- From: Dennis Fleming [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, December 27, 2003 8:43 AM To: RBASE-L Mailing List Subject: [RBASE-L] - Terminal Services Question. When using Terminal Services, does any processing occur on the local machine? I.e., what are the minimum requirements?
