Sami,

I have the code written to do electronic 1099 files for the IRS.
I have not put 2003 updates in because this is the first year since I can
remember where I did not have to do 1099s for at least one client.

I have always put a 255 out at the end to preserve the space, and they have
never complained.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - IRS Electronic files - CHAR 32 or 255?

I'm preparing an electronic file for the IRS for a client's 1099 payments.
Does anyone know if the "blank" they refer to in their extremely helpful
Publication 1220 should be CHAR(32) or CHAR(255)?

Since there are blanks at the end of each record, it appears that the
CHAR(32) isn't retained, but the CHAR(255) is.

The final two characters on each record need to be the carriage-return and
line feed.

TIA -

Sami
