You can use bar codes in both.  In 6.5 you have to buy bar code fonts from an independent dealer like Worth Data to use them in your reports.  There are many bar codes already built in to RBG7, and from my experience, you have a lot more control with sizing in RBG7.
As far as reading bar coded into R:base, I have been doing this since DOS days.  You can get keyboard wedge readers or now they have USB readers.  Also many scanners will work.  Sometimes you have to build in some variable codes that represent [ENTER] or accumulate codes - for example say if you are doing inventory and reading in single digits from a number pad, you can scan a (1) and a (4) and then a code to enter and it sends a(14).
Hope this helps

Subject:        [RBASE-L] - Bar-coding

I have used Rbase as a point of sale and recently upgraded to 6.5++, now I am wanting to print and read bar-codes.  Can I do this with 6.5 or upgrading to 7.0.
Tom
