Yes, we experienced same problems,  and 98 SE needs more resources to run
well than 98 (1st) requiring memory upgrades or new (or refurbished) XP
computers.

We buy refurbished HP/Compact XP "workstation" class computers for under
$800.00 and 7.1 runs incredibly fast on them.
