2004 6th Annual R:BASE Developers' Conference Charitable Partners Each year R:BASE developers contribute to a charity through their activities at the Developers' Conference. Funds are collected through good-natured "fines" for impolite, nuisance, or distracting behaviors, such as cell phones ringing, asking previously asked questions, or making references to politics or sports.
Many developers and customers opened their hearts and wallets far beyond the fines for their infractions. For example, this year Randy Morrow paid $300 in a charity auction for a boxed package of R:BASE 4000 (donated by Dennis Fleming), complete with 5 inch diskettes. The package included an R:BASE Exchange with helpful advice on speeding up your R:BASE applications, such as "Copy your overlay files to a Hard Disk, if you have one." The box was signed by Wayne Erickson and Razzak Memon. This year, funds were raised and distributed to two organizations. Project Bundle-Up, a regular recipient of R:BASE conference donations for five conferences now, received $961.50, which will be matched by RBTI President A. Razzak Memon, for a total of $1,923.00. The Kevin Aaron Memorial Fund at University of California Berkeley received $320.50, which will be matched by Conference Master of Ceremonies Steve Sweeney, for a total of $641.00. More information about the two funds follows below. Project Bundle-Up ============== Project Bundle-Up is a joint effort of The Salvation Army and WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh.
