Just out of curiosity ... can you create a report in 6.5++ for Windows using "AllColumns" table in RBG7 ConComp sample database and place the column object based on CVarChar (VARCHAR) with Auto Expand property and see what you get.
A quick test on this end reveals no problem displaying the VARCHAR data on 6.5++ report.
