From the Edge: Using Data Tree to Design a Report
Section: Report Designer
Chapter: Running R:BASE Your Way!
Platform: R:BASE 7.x and V-8 "Turbo" for Windows
Build: 7.1.79.30128 and higher

R:BASE 7.x and V-8 "Turbo" for Windows Report Designer contains a
Report Wizard that allows you to quickly create an report layout.
This is great for generating an entire report, but what if you
need to create only a portion of a complex report? Drag and drop
functionality is an ideal solution for this problem because it
allows you to create a set of controls within the context of an
existing report layout. In Report Designer, drag and drop support
is provided via Data Tree.

Here's how:

Steps:

01. Start RBG7 or RBG75 or RBG8, connect to ConComp sample database
02. Database Explorer | Reports | New Report
03. Type the new report name as "Customer" based on "Customer" table
    (Figure 1)
Type "Customer List" for Description and click on [OK] button.
Note: Do not check the option for "Use report Wizard".
Notice the blank report with default margins, etc. (Figure 2)
04. Access the Data Tree object via Report Designer's View | Toolbars
    (Figures 3 - 6)
05. Dock the Data Tree on the left side of the workspace (Figure 7)
06. Change the paper orientation from Portrait to Landscape
07. Modify the Bands
08. Create Labels in the Page Header Band (Figure 8)
09. Use the Data Tree to Lay Out the Customer Information (Figure 9)
10. Adjust the Layout (Figure 10)
11. Add a TimeStamp (Figure 11)
12. Add Page Numbers (Figure 12)
13. Preview the Report in Report Designer (Figure 13)
14. Save the report and close Report Designer.
