It's very typical of microsoft to make things slower on purpose to make another product seem faster and get the sales for that.  I guess it makes sense from a business standpoint, I'm just glad RBTI doesnt throttle or dumb down the software they sell then try and sell us a more expensive edition saying they've improved it.

1) in non-server OS's, microsoft actualy has delays in the low level OS network code to make network connections slower.

2) in windows XP (not sure about other windows OS's) they ship it out with OpenGL drivers that have been slowed down on purpose so that DirectX apears faster than OpenGL for graphics.

3) somewhat on topic - with the advent of .net technologies they advertised that VB.net is now as fast as their C++/C# .net.  The reason for that was not because they made VB.net amazingly fast (they did increase the speed though admitedly...), but because they slowed down their C++ .net to use the VB style DLL calls etc instead of it just being a purely compiled language.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Re: Rbase v. Access

The biggest argument I can give is if the user will ever have more than
5 people connected at one time.  Microsoft has a "built in throttle" (their
words, not mine, at a seminar I attended) that kicks in when the 6th person
tries to connect.  This throttle dramatically slows down response time.
They claim that if you have more than 5 users you need to go to SQL
Server, and that the only way they can insure that Access acts reliably
with 6 users is to slow the performance down.   I can't believe that's true,
I'm sure it's just a neat way of selling more SQL Server.

I am finding myself being required to justify the use of Rbase instead
of Access at this Univ. Apparently just saying it's way better, see for
yourself doesn't cut it.

I am looking for some help in examples of why Rbase is better and that
is does use a real programming language and a list of major
organizations that are using rbase. I know Razzak is doing work for the
FBI and believe the US Navy. Others?

Thanks much.
