Victor,

Following up on Ben's message.  Make sure that IDQUOTES is set to "`" (that's 
usually the character below the tilde '~' in the upper left hand key of the 
standard american keyboard.   Apparently the RBase ODBC functions are very 
particular about this character.

Victor,

What are your character settings (use "sho char" to find out)? 
Under Rbase w/o considering ODBC, that error would indicate a 
missing quote or paren. I *think* ODBC requires single quotes. So 
if you're character settings has quotes quotes as double it may be 
confusing things.
