Duncan - Basically, the database will convert with no problems - in fact you can continue to run your 6.5++ application, forms and reports on the same database even after the conversion and that way you can to gradually convert your application, forms and reports - as they become functional in 7.5 you can remove them from 6.5 ++. Your reload CMD file should still work exactly the same.
Your forms and reports will convert pretty smoothly - there will be some tweaking, and of course lots of new features you could choose to implement. If you have problems with the conversion you can post messages to the newer R:BASE list server for versions 7.0 and higher. Your application will not convert because the new application express is a completely different type of program. However, if you do a straight conversion, your old application just may continue to work even in version 7.5 - it depends on how much customization you've done. The new R:BASE comes with a complete tutorial so you can learn how to do things on a sample database. In addition, you might want to download the evaluation copy from http://www.rupdates.com/evaluation/ - it is fully functional except that you cannot print to a printer (Just to the screen) and a few other limitations that I can't remember at this time. Be sure to read the R:BASE_75_Features_and_Enhancements.pdf document that should be part of the download. Good luck! I have created forms using Form Express, reports using Reports Express and applications using Application Express. My question if I upgrade to 7.5 will it automatically convert my databases, forms, reports and applications. As I'm not a programmer the applications, forms and reports have taken a long time to create and I do not want to have to have to recreate them again. Also I got a CMD file from Rbase that automates the Reload of the data base and wondered it would work in 7.5 I appreciate any input. --- RBASE-L ================================================ TO POST A MESSAGE TO ALL MEMBERS: Send a plain text email to [email protected] (Don't use any of these words as your Subject: INTRO, SUBSCRIBE, UNSUBSCRIBE, SEARCH, REMOVE, SUSPEND, RESUME, DIGEST, RESEND, HELP) ================================================ TO SEE MESSAGE POSTING GUIDELINES: Send a plain text email to [email protected] In the message SUBJECT, put just one word: INTRO ================================================ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Send a plain text email to [email protected] In the message SUBJECT, put just one word: UNSUBSCRIBE ================================================ TO SEARCH ARCHIVES: Send a plain text email to [email protected] In the message SUBJECT, put just one word: SEARCH-n (where n is the number of days).
