Because it is so much more than TS. Microsoft pulled their usual
strategy here --- created a strategic partnership with Metaframe,
took what they wanted, built Terminal Services then cut Metaframe
loose. So the Metaframe guys went on to build the Real Deal, leaving
TS in the dust. Yes, it requires TS, but offers worlds more.
Forget gigabit links to the thin clients --- the only thing passing
back and forth would be keyclicks, mouse clicks and screen
updates. Speed here is not an issue. In a one-server environment,
the gig switch isn't going to buy you anything unless you have fat
clients that also have gig NICs.
Emmitt,
Why would the Citrix Metaframe be important? I thought that it runs
on top of or in addition to the Terminal Services. Also, If you
have just one server, do you think that using a gigabit connection
to the switch and 100 mb connections to the thin clients would be
sufficient? Are there thin clients that have a gigabit nic?
